We help Guelph residents and businesses file their taxes online: you send your slips, we prepare the return, you review and approve it, and we e-file it with the CRA, with no trip required. Guelph Property Tax, Short-Term Rental Licence and Business Licences

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 29, 2026.

Guelph property tax: four instalments and interest that cannot be waived

Guelph's instalments fall on the last banking business day of February, April, June and September. The interim bill arrives in February and is based on your MPAC assessed value and a portion of the previous year's tax rate. Unpaid taxes bear interest of 1.25% per month, or 15% a year, starting the day after the due date and again on the first day of each following month, and the City says it cannot waive or alter these charges. Payments go first to penalties, interest and late fees, then to the oldest outstanding taxes. You can pay on the instalment dates, join a pre-authorized plan, have your mortgage company pay, or use the City's Property Tax Portal.

Short-term rentals in Guelph need a City licence

Every short-term rental provider in Guelph must hold a licence under the Business Licensing By-law, in force since December 1, 2023. You must own and live at your principal residence, and corporations cannot apply. Besides your home, one other legally established dwelling unit on the same property can usually be licensed too. A condominium owner needs a letter of permission from the condominium corporation. The application asks for a floor plan, government ID, proof of ownership, general liability insurance, a criminal records check, a guest information package and a fire plan. Rental income also belongs on your income tax return, and we can help you report it.

Business licences in Guelph, from food and personal services to taxis

The City licenses bed and breakfasts and hotels, food establishments and food trucks, holistic and personal services such as hair salons and piercing shops, amusement businesses such as escape rooms, payday loan establishments, private parking agents, public halls, taxis and driving instructors, and second-hand goods dealers. You start or renew online, and a licence can only be issued once all building permits and inspections are complete. Most licences expire on December 31 each year, while some, including short-term rentals, run for one year from the month of issue. We can help you work out what applies to your business and keep its books.
