Centre Wellington property tax: two final instalments and many ways to pay

The Township's 2026 final instalments were due on June 26 and September 28. It adds 1.25% per month on the first day of each month, until the account is paid in full. You can pay through internet or telephone banking, over the counter at a bank or credit union, by a pre-authorized plan, by mail or the secure mailbox at the Municipal Office, or in person at 1 MacDonald Square in Elora, where Interac and cash are accepted. Post-dated cheques are accepted. The pre-authorized plan can be monthly or by instalment, and supplementary taxes are not included in the plan's payment amount.

Centre Wellington allows up to three residential units on a lot

The Township's zoning updates allow up to three residential units per lot. An additional residential unit can sit inside the main dwelling, as a basement apartment or an addition, or in an accessory building, such as a unit above a garage. The Zoning By-law also sets parking space requirements for these units. If you rent a unit out, the rent is taxable income, and we can help you report it and track the related expenses.

Centre Wellington has no general business licence, but vendors need one

The Township says it does not require the purchase of a business licence, and it encourages you to contact Planning, Building and Development Services before you open, so the business and its location comply with the Zoning By-law, the Official Plan and other regulations. The exception is outdoor vendors and transient traders, such as food vehicles, which do need a licence, with the details on its vendor licensing page. Questions go to the Building Division at 1 MacDonald Square in Elora. Provincial and federal registrations, such as GST/HST, are separate, and we can help you with them.
