Privacy Policy For Lira Tax & Accounting Services

At Lira Tax & Accounting, we take privacy seriously and are committed to protecting the personal information of our clients and website visitors.

Last updated: October 30, 2026. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use our website or our services, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, how we protect it, and the choices you have. We follow the privacy laws that apply to us in Canada, including the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for our Alberta office, Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act.

Information We Collect

We collect only the information we need to answer your questions and to provide accounting, tax and business services. Depending on how you deal with us, this can include:

  • Contact details you give us on our contact, booking or remote tax filing request forms, by phone, WhatsApp or email: your name, company name (if any), email address, phone number, the service you are asking about and the message you write. The remote tax filing request form also asks for your province or territory, your marital status (optional) and a few details about your return, such as the tax year and the types of income you have. It does not ask for sensitive identifiers such as your social insurance number, your date of birth, banking details or documents; we explain how to share those safely when we contact you.
  • Service information you or your business provide so we can do the work, such as identification, tax slips, income, expenses, bank and payroll records, previous returns and government correspondence.
  • Information from government agencies, such as the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), when you authorize us to access your accounts or to act for you.

What Happens On Our Website

  • Forms. When you send a contact, booking or remote tax filing request form, we save it in our system and email it to our team so we can reply to you.
  • Website assistant (chatbot). The questions you type into the assistant are answered from our own list of prepared answers. They are not saved or logged.
  • Cookies. We use only the small technical cookies a website needs to keep its forms secure. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run website analytics or tracking tools.
  • Other companies' content. Some pages load content from other companies, for example Google Fonts, an embedded Google Map on our contact page, a video preview from YouTube, and standard website code libraries from content delivery networks. When your browser loads these, the company providing them can see technical details such as your IP address. Their own privacy policies apply to what they do with it. Links to WhatsApp, YouTube and our social media pages take you to those services.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to respond to your questions, provide and bill for our services, prepare and file the returns and documents you ask for, communicate with you about your file, meet legal and professional requirements, and keep our services accurate and secure. We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not use it for advertising by other companies. We will ask for your consent before using it for any other purpose.

Who We Share It With

We share your information only when it is needed for the work you asked us to do, or when the law requires it:

  • Government bodies, such as the CRA and provincial agencies, when we file returns or documents for you or deal with them on your behalf.
  • Service providers that help us run our business, such as website hosting and email providers. They may use the information only to provide their service to us.
  • Others, when required by law, such as in response to a court order or a lawful request from a regulator.

Some of our providers store information on servers outside Canada, where privacy laws may differ from Canadian law.

How Long We Keep It

We keep client records for about 6 years, which matches the period the CRA generally requires for tax records. After that, we securely destroy them unless the law requires us to keep them longer.

How We Protect It

Our website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and client information is accessible only to authorized people who need it for their work. We choose service providers with care. No website or system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorized access.

Your Choices And Rights

You may ask us at any time to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it;
  • give you access to it, or correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
  • stop using your information for marketing or other optional purposes, or withdraw your consent, subject to legal and contractual limits; and
  • explain any part of this policy or how we handled your information.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, for Alberta, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will also tell our clients.
