Vaughan Property Tax, Short-Term Rental Licence and Business Licences

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 29, 2026.

Vaughan property tax: three interim and three final instalments

The City mails an interim bill in February and a final bill in June. In 2026 the interim instalments were due March 27, April 28 and May 27, and the final ones July 29, August 27 and September 28. Property taxes are collected by the City for its own services, York Region and the local school boards, and the City says less than 30 per cent of the bill stays with the City. A brand-new home bought from a builder may also get a supplementary bill for the building itself. Failing to receive a bill does not exempt you from paying it, and the City offers a Pre-Authorized Tax Payment program. Follow the dates on your bill.

Short-term rentals in Vaughan need a licence, and the 4% accommodation tax applies

Short-term rentals are allowed in Vaughan only in the owner's or tenant's principal residence, and only with a licence. The City defines them as stays of not more than 29 consecutive nights. Both owners and online platforms such as Airbnb and Expedia, which the City calls brokerages, must be licensed. A Municipal Accommodation Tax of four per cent applies to every short-term rental stay, and since October 27, 2025 a newly licensed owner or brokerage is registered for it automatically and receives an email explaining how to remit it. Rental income also belongs on your income tax return, and we can help you report it.

Business licences and permits in Vaughan

The City licenses a long list of businesses, including eating establishments and pubs, hair and esthetics services, home-based businesses, pet grooming establishments, public garages, refreshment vehicles, tobacco vendors, tow trucks, and contractors such as landscapers, pool installers and renovators. You apply or renew through the City's Licensing Portal, or in person, by email, by mail or at a drop box. You can also check whether a business or event has a Vaughan licence, and the Vaughan Business Enterprise Centre helps with business registration. We can help you work out what applies to your business and keep its books.
