King Township Property Tax, Business Licences and Building Permits

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 29, 2026.

King Township property tax: July and September instalments, and supplementary bills

The Township's 2026 final instalments were due July 30 and September 24, and the interim levy is 50% of last year's annualized taxes. The penalty for late payment is 1.25% per month on the unpaid balance, added on the first day of each month the default continues. The bill carries Township, Region and education taxes, and some bills also include Holland Marsh Drainage System charges and a stormwater levy. When MPAC's assessment rises after a renovation, a new building or a new home becomes occupied, the Township issues a supplementary bill, which can be backdated to the occupancy date and can arrive up to three years later.

King Township does not issue a general business licence

The Township says it does not issue licences to operate a business, but a business must still comply with the permitted uses of its property under the Township's zoning by-laws. The exception is kennels and doggie daycares, which need a business licence from the Clerks Division. Before you rent premises or start a business from home, confirm the zoning for your property with the Township. We can help you work out what applies to your business and keep its books, GST/HST and payroll in order.

Building permits in King Township go through the CityView portal

Since mid-2025 the Building Division has used the CityView Portal for every building permit application, resubmission and issuance, and applications are submitted online. Permit Administration checks your documents, a plans examiner reviews the Building Code, and development charges or cash in lieu are assessed before the permit is released, though eligible municipal development charges may be deferred until first occupancy. The Township will not accept an application until applicable law is satisfied, and you need an occupancy permit before you occupy the building.
