Brampton Rental Licensing, Property Tax and Business Licences

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 29, 2026.

Renting out a home in Brampton: Residential Rental Licensing

Brampton requires landlords with one to four units intended for rental to hold a Residential Rental Licence. From January 1, 2026 the program covers the whole city, adding wards 2, 6, 8, 9 and 10 to the original wards 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7. Before a licence is issued, new and renewing landlords complete an online module on the City's rental rules and show a certificate of liability insurance of at least $2 million. Applications and renewals are free, and fines apply to renting without a licence. Rental income also belongs on your income tax return, and we can help you report it.

Brampton property tax: three instalments for each bill

Brampton sends an interim tax bill in January that is 50% of the previous year's taxes, adjusted for supplementary taxes or cancellations, and a final bill later in the year. Each bill has three instalments: in 2026 the interim instalments were due February 18, March 18 and April 22, and the final ones July 22, August 19 and September 23. The City also offers pre-authorized tax payments, including a monthly plan. The dates change each year, so follow the ones on your bill.

Business and short-term rental licences in Brampton

The City of Brampton licenses more than 30 types of stationary businesses under Business Licensing By-law 184-2023, including contractors such as roofers and driveway paving firms, fixed food premises, lodging homes and pet grooming. New applications may also need zoning approval, proof of insurance or approvals from other agencies. Short-term rental operators must be licensed too, with general liability insurance of at least $2 million. We can help you work out what applies to your business and keep its books ready for filing.
