St. Catharines Property Tax, Short-Term Rental Licence and Business Licences

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 30, 2026.

St. Catharines property tax: four instalments and a 4:30 p.m. cut-off

For 2026 the interim instalments were due on February 27 and April 30, and the final instalments on June 30 and September 29. The City says all payments must be received by 4:30 p.m. on the due date, and that penalty fees are applied on the first day of default and again on the first day of each following month until the balance is paid. It offers pre-authorized plans, with an instalment option and a monthly option, withdrawn automatically on the scheduled dates, and says its monthly plans have no added interest. You can pay through your bank, online, in person at City Hall or by cheque.

Short-term rentals in St. Catharines need a licence and must be your own home

A short-term rental in St. Catharines must be the primary residence of the operator, whether the owner or a tenant, and the rental is secondary to that home use. A stay may not exceed 28 consecutive days, and the City requires one parking space per bedroom, with on-street parking not counting. Licences are issued for two years. Applications need general liability insurance of at least 2 million dollars per occurrence, a letter from a licensed electrician dated within 12 months, a fire safety protocol, a site plan, floor plans, a parking management plan, proof of ownership or a lease, and photos. Demerit points stay on a licence for two years and can lead to a three-month suspension or revocation. Rental income belongs on your tax return, and we can help you report it.
