New Tecumseth property tax: instalment dates and a monthly penalty

Interim instalments are due on the last business day of February and the last business day of April. Final residential and farmland instalments are due on the last business day in June and the second last business day in September, while final commercial, industrial, multi-residential and mixed instalments are due on the last business day in August and the last business day of October. A penalty of 1.25% of the outstanding balance is added on the first day of each month, and the Town does not charge penalty on penalty. New Tecumseth allows up to two additional residential units

The Town describes an additional residential unit as a second home, attached to the main house or detached, with its own separate living space. Under Zoning By-law 2021-128 it allows up to two on eligible properties, so a lot can have up to three units in total with the main dwelling. The property must be zoned for a single detached, semi-detached or street townhouse dwelling. You confirm with Planning that your zone permits a unit, check whether a conservation authority permit is needed, and submit a building permit application, with work meeting the Ontario Building Code and the Fire Code. If you rent a unit out, the rent is taxable income, and we can help you report it.

Licences issued by New Tecumseth, from refreshment vehicles to kennels

The Town issues hawkers and peddlers licences, places of amusement licences, refreshment vehicle licences and kennel licences, as well as dog licences, lottery licences for groups the AGCO considers charitable, and marriage licences. It does not issue licences to taxi or limo companies or drivers. Application forms are on the Town's applications, forms and licences page, and lottery and marriage licence applications go by email to the Town's by-law enforcement office. If you run a business here, we can help you decide what else it needs and keep its books.
