Markham accountants and remote tax filing

Tax Accountant in Markham: File Your Taxes Online

Markham residents and businesses can file with us online: you send your slips, we prepare the return, you review and approve it, and we e-file it with the CRA, with no office visit. We do not have an office in Markham; the closest is our Eglinton Branch on Eglinton Avenue East in Scarborough, if you want to meet in person. The City of Markham licenses businesses, registers two-unit houses and bills property tax in its own way, so this page sets out what to expect.

Markham Property Tax, Business Licences and Second Suite Registration

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 29, 2026.

Markham property tax: two summer instalments for homes

Markham issues an interim tax bill in early January equal to 50% of the previous year's taxes. In 2026 the residential final instalments were due July 6 and August 5, and the commercial and industrial ones October 5 and November 5. The City's pre-authorized plans offer four, six or eleven instalments for homes. A 1% penalty is added to an unpaid instalment, plus interest of 1.25% per month until the taxes are paid. The dates change each year, so follow your bill.

Business licences in Markham

Markham licenses stationary businesses under By-law 2018-90, including food premises, tobacco and vape sales, and personal services such as hair, nail, aesthetics, tattoo and piercing. Vehicle-based businesses such as taxis, driving schools and refreshment vehicles are licensed under By-law 2022-20, and driveway and landscape contractors must renew every year by March 31. The Business Licensing counter is at the Markham Civic Centre, 101 Town Centre Boulevard, and walk-ins are not accepted for applications. If your business is not on the City's list, email LicensingFC@Markham.ca.

Second suites in Markham must be registered

Markham requires every two-unit house to be registered with the City. A new second suite needs a building permit and must meet the Ontario Building Code, and the owner then arranges a fire inspection and registration with Markham Fire and Emergency Services. Under Bill 23, up to three units are now permitted on urban residential lots. If a suite was built before July 1, 1993, the owner submits a Two-Unit House Declaration Form. Rental income must be reported on your return, and we can help you with it.
