Halton Hills Property Tax, Additional Residential Unit Registration and Business Licences

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 29, 2026.

Halton Hills property tax: two interim and two final instalments

Halton Hills' 2026 instalments were due February 27 and April 30 for the interim bill and June 30 and September 29 for the final bill. A 1.25% late payment charge is applied on the first day of each month after the due date, and the Town can waive it only for an administrative error or overcharge. It offers a monthly plan with 10 withdrawals from January to October, an instalment plan and an arrears plan, and cancelling needs 15 days' written notice. You can pay at your bank, or with debit, cheque or cash at Town Hall, and the Town does not take credit cards in person or by phone.

Additional residential units in Halton Hills must be registered under By-law 2023-0060

An additional residential unit (ARU) in Halton Hills cannot be occupied unless it is registered, which makes the unit legal and requires inspections by the Town and the Electrical Safety Authority. On a fully serviced residential property up to two ARUs are allowed: both in the main house, or one in the house and one in an accessory building. An ARU can use up to 40% of the floor area or 110 square metres, whichever is less, or the whole basement, and each needs one parking space. The Town publishes a public registry of ARUs. If you rent the unit, declare the income on your annual tax return, and we can help you report it.

Business licences in Halton Hills under By-law 2005-0067

The Town's Licensing and By-law Services team regulates any business carried on within Halton Hills under Business Licensing By-law 2005-0067, which Council passed on June 28, 2005, and the Town says holding a valid business licence is essential. The application is a PDF form, with a separate certificate of insurance form. The Town no longer issues tow truck driver or brokerage licences, because oversight moved to the Province. We can help you work out what applies to your business and keep its books.
