Georgina Property Tax, Short-Term Rental Licence and Business Licences

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 29, 2026.

Georgina property tax: a 1% penalty on the first day of default

The Town's taxes page lists instalments due July 28 and September 28, 2026, and says the due dates change each year, so your bill is the authority. A penalty of 1% is charged on an instalment that is not paid by the due date and is added on the first day of default. Interest is then charged on the first day of each month, at 1% for current-year taxes and 1.25% for previous years' taxes. The bill covers Town services and programs, education purposes and York Region's levies. The Town has a separate payment options page for its pre-authorized plans and ways to pay.

Short-term rentals in Georgina: a licence for each property and a cap of 150

Each property operated as a short-term rental in Georgina needs its own licence under the Short-term Rental Accommodation By-law. A property must be a single-family dwelling with at least three parking spaces plus one more for each guest room. The Town allows no more than 150 active licences at once and keeps a waiting list, and it reported 57 licensed rentals on June 11, 2026. A licence lasts one year and needs an annual fire inspection and a by-law enforcement inspection, and demerit points can lead to a suspension of up to six months or a revocation. A 2023 amendment removed the requirement for an on-site host.

Business licences in Georgina, from kennels to taxis and urban hens

The Town licenses adult entertainment facilities and parlours, body rub parlours, exhibitions and festivals, fireworks (except on Victoria Day and Canada Day), hawkers and pedlars, horse riding establishments, kennels, refreshment vehicles, salvage yards, second-hand goods, special sales, taxis and urban hens. Short-term rentals must be licensed too. You apply online through the Town's application portal, and a Licensing Coordinator can check that your application is complete. We can help you work out what applies to your business and keep its books.
