Brantford Property Tax, Short-Term Rental Registration and Business Licences

What to know, from the official pages named on each card. We last checked them on October 30, 2026.

Brantford property tax: 1.25% on a late instalment that the City cannot waive

The City's 2026 final due dates are June 30 and September 15, and interim bills are mailed in February. A penalty and interest charge of 1.25% is added on the day of default to any instalment, and another 1.25% is added on the first day of each following month until it is paid. The City says Council and staff do not have the authority to waive or alter these charges. Pre-authorized payment plans withdraw either 12 monthly payments or four instalments a year from your bank account, and you can also pay through your financial institution, in person at City Hall or by mail.

Short-term rentals in Brantford must be registered

The City requires all short-term rental accommodations to be registered. It defines one as a dwelling unit, or part of one, in which temporary accommodation is made available for a maximum of 28 consecutive days per stay. What you must provide is set out in Schedule A-15 of Municipal Code Chapter 326, which covers business licensing, and you register through the City's Cloudpermit e-permitting system. Rental income is taxable, and we can help you report it and track the related expenses.

Lottery and gaming licences and vehicle-for-hire licences have their own pages. Applications go through Cloudpermit, and the City's licensing staff answer questions by email or phone. We can help you work out what applies and keep your books.
